Blood on the Death Note

How to play it

In this game, there are two teams. One is comprised of players aligned GOOD; the other, of players aligned EVIL.

In order for the GOOD team to win, they must successfully execute Kira.

In order for the EVIL team to win, they must end up outnumbering the GOOD team.

The game begins with a Night phase, during which the Death Note (the Mod) gives each player their role and alignment. Once this is done, the Death Note will allow the player with the Light role to choose a player to 'kill'. The player's 'death' will not be officially announced by the Death Note (Mod) until the beginning of the Day phase, however the player will lose their ability immediately - i.e. if they had an Action role, they will no longer be able to use this action; if they have an Information role, they will no longer receive their information.

Once Kira has acted, each role that can take action or receive information during the night will be asked to do so by the Death Note.

Once each role with an overnight ability has used it, the game will proceed into the Day phase.

At the start of the Day phase, the Death Note will announce which player/s died during the night. The Death Note will not reveal the dead player's role to the group - nor will the dead player, as they are dead. This player will be muted (MU-ted? ha) for the rest of the game.

During the day, the players will discuss - and lie about! - the information they may have received during the night, or they may admit their Ability as they see fit. If one player wishes to discuss a certain matter with another player in private, they will inform the Death Note, and the Death Note will add them to one of the #undercover servers. Once the players have finished their private discussion, the servers' chat logs will be cleared.

Action players may choose to use their actions during the day; the Death Note will announce the consequences of each Action as necessary. If a player attempts to use an action that they do not have, the Death Note will announce that "nothing happens" and the game will proceed as normal.

At the end of each Day phase, the Death Note will ask for nominations. At this time, any player may nominate another player to execute. The nominator can explain the reasoning behind their nomination. The nominee can then defend themselves. A vote will be taken by the Death Note; if more than half of the remaining players vote in favour of executing the nominee, the nominee will be executed (with certain exceptions; i.e. a player with the Ryuk role cannot be executed). The Day phase will immediately end and the Night phase will begin.

If, however, half or less than half the remaining players vote against executing the nominee, the execution will fail, and a second nomination may be made by anyone aside from the original nominator. If three nominations fail, no one is executed, and the Day phase ends.

GOOD wins if they are able to successfully execute Kira.

EVIL wins as soon as they outnumber GOOD, or if they successfully kill Near.

A note on the Near and Mello roles: It is not possible for any player to begin with either role, as these roles only activate if L dies and there are at least four players remaining. The detective who receives Mello's role and the detective who receives Near's will be informed of this during the night, even if L dies during the day.

Mello will appear to be aligned GOOD when investigated, however if the Mello player wins, their victory is their own, and both GOOD and EVIL lose.

Roles

Kira:

Kira is aligned EVIL and can kill one (1) player during the night.

Light | (Action) Each night, choose a player: they 'die'. If you choose yourself, you die and a Follower becomes Kira.

Kira's Followers:

All Kira's Followers are aligned EVIL, and each has an ability which hinders the GOOD team/benefits Kira.

Mikami | (Action) If there are five or more players alive and Kira dies, you become Kira. (Up until this point, you do not have any special ability.)

Misa | (Information) On the first night, you see the Death Note. You might register as GOOD and as a Detective/Outsider, even when dead. If you are killed by Light, Light dies.

Potato Chip | (Action) L receives false information until either you or L die.

Apple | You have no Ability. [There are two extra Outsiders in play.]

Outsiders:

All Outsiders are aligned GOOD, but their abilities are a hindrance to the GOOD team.

Ryuk | You cannot die. If executed, a random Detective will die instead.

Rem | You start knowing which player is L.

Matt | You may die at any time.

Higuchi | You do not know you are Higuchi. You think you are a specific Detective, but your ability malfunctions.

Detectives:

All Detective roles are aligned GOOD, and each has an ability which benefits the GOOD team.

L | (Information) Each night, choose two players: you learn if either is Kira.

Matsuda | (Action) Once per game, publicly choose a player: if they are Kira, they die.

Soichiro | (Information) Each night, you learn a character who died by execution today.

Sachiko | (Information) You start knowing that one player is a Detective. If Kira kills them, you die too.

Watari | (Action) Each night, choose a player (not yourself): they are safe tonight.

Penber | (Information) You start knowing that one of two players is a Detective.

Mello | (Action) Activates when there are four or more players alive and L dies. If you nominate Kira and Kira is executed, both GOOD and EVIL lose and you win the game.

Near | (Action) Activates if there are four or more players alive and L dies. You have no special Ability. If you are killed, EVIL team wins.

Taro | (Action) Once per game, at night, choose a dead player; if they are a Detective, they are resurrected.

Aizawa | (Information) You start knowing that one of two players is an Outsider.

Mogi | (Information) You start knowing how many pairs of evil players are neighbouring each other.

Aiber | (Action) You will register as L. [L will register as a random Detective.]
